Kashaya Powder

Kashaya Powder - Gayathri Pai

Recipe For The Kashay Powder: 

This Kashay Powder is to be used for bad Throat & Cold only & not for regular days.
Coriander 200 gms, Jeera 100gms, Badisep 25gms, Methi 25 gms, whole blackpepper 2 heaped tablespoons, Small piece of haldi about 1 inch (dried turmeric), whole green Cardamom 8 -10, dry Ginger piece (Shunti) about 4 inch.

Dry roast coriander, jeera, badisep, methi, whole black pepper separately for a few minutes each, if you have sunlight facility just put all the ingredients in a big plate & keep it in Sunlight for 3-4 hours. Cool. Add the cardamom, haldi, dry ginger & pound to a coarse powder. If frying in tava, just see that each ingredient is hot enough say about 2-3 minutes, not more than that especially jeera or else it will turn bitter.

To make Kashaya: Take four cups of water, add about ½ -1 cup of jaggery, 2 heaped tblsp of Kashay powder & bring to boil, reduce heat & simmer for at least 20 minutes. Strain & sip hot kashay.

You can add Milk if you desire especially for children.

This Kashaya should be taken only about ½ - 1 cup twice a day when you have cold/sore throat & not on regular days as it produces heat in the body.
