Simla Mirch Kayrus


Simla Mirch Kayrus - Anuradha Mudalagiri Kamath
Ingredients
5-6 Medium Green capsicum cut into 1 inch pieces
2 medium potatoes cut into 1 inch cubes
1 tbsp oil
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
a pinch of asafoetida
1/2 cup peanuts
salt to taste
1/4 tsp turmeric
1 1/2 tbsp grated jaggery
2 tbsp tamrind pulp
For masala
3 tbsp sesame seeds/til
1/2 cup scraped coconut
1/2 tbsp oil
2 tbsp split bengal gram / channa dal
1/2 tsp fenugreek seeds/methi dana
2 tbsp coriander seeds
3-4 dried red chillies / preferably bedgi
HOw to make masala paste
Dry Roast Til and coconut seperately till slightly changed colour and cool.
heat some oil add chana daal,methi dana, coriander seeds and red chillies and roast and cool.
Make a paste of roasted til, coconut , chana daal mixture
Process
Heat oil in a pan add mustard seeds and splutter add asafoetida and peanuts roast for 3-4 mins. Now add Potatoes,salt,turmeric mix well. Now cover and cook till almost cooked. Add the masala mixture to the potatoes, water and jaggery cook on low flame for 3 to 4 mins. Now Add the cubed capusicum once cooked add tamrind pulp mix and cook for 1 min. Serve hot
