Avarekalu Chicken Curry


Avarekalu Chicken Curry - Nisha Baliga Shenoy

Ragi Mudde with Hithkidh avare kalu with Koli saaru

Avarekalu koli saaru ( Avarekalu Chicken curry )
1 kg chicken 
1 cup Avarekalu ( deskinned twice )
1 onion chopped . 
. In a Thick botttom vessel , heat oil and add chopped onions ,small piece dalchini, 1 cardamom, fry for a while , add a small bunch chopped mint leaves and the deskinned Avarekalu. Fry till raw smell disappers. meanwhile boil some water say about 2 cups in a vessel and keep aside.
. To the fried ones add the cleaned chicken and just toss for a while , add the boiled water and cook for almost 3/4 done . then add salt.

Meanwhile prepare for the masala-
1 onion chopped lengthwise
1 tsp khus khus
3 cloves
small piece dalchini
7-8 green chillies
.Fry the above items in ghee and keep aside.
. half coconut grated
. one fistful puffed gram ( hurikadale )
.1/2 tsp haldi pd
.2 tsp coriander pd
.2 tsp chilli pd
.2 inch ginger
.12 cloves of garlic
.1/2 onion
. 2 Natti tomatoes ( these r very sour in taste ) u can use 4 tomatoes instead of two.
.One small bunch coriander leaves .
Grind the above fried and these raw items into smooth paste..
. Add this paste to the cooked chicken and avarekalu.
. check for salt n spices.
. The gravy shud not be too thick nor to thin. It must be medium.
. Mix well and bring this to a Boil and cook for 2- 5 minutes.
. This goes well with Mutton too.but mutton must be pressure cooked and added to the curry.
