Manohara Payasu


Manohara Payasu  - Nisha Baliga Shenoy

(Tiny rice dumplings in sweetened coconut milk - A forgotten GSB Delicacy )
• 1 Cup rice 
• ½ cup coconut grated 
• Milk of 1 whole coconut
• 2 cups Jaggery syrup
• 1 tsp cardamom pd.

METHOD

1. Soak rice in water for 2 hours.
2. Grind it along with ½ cup coconut to a smooth paste without adding much water. The batter must be very thick.
3. Grind the coconut and take out the milk of it.

4. Now with the thin coconut milk , add jaggery and let it boil.
5. While boiling this mixture , Take a ladle with a hole , paas the batter thru this ladle to form small bondis this droplets and add the small bondis to the coconut and jaggery mixture , let it boil. Finish off all the batter in this same way.
6. Finally add the thick coconut milk and bring this to one boil . Take care not to burn.
7. The Payasu now becomes very thick and the small droplets of batter get well cooked in sweet coconut milk.
8. Relish warm or chilled.
