Nuchinunde

Nuchinunde - Laxmi Bhandary

Ingredients: 1/2 cup turdal, 1/2 cup chana dal (bengal gram dal), 1/2 cup moong dal (green gram dal), 1/2 cup grated coconut, 2 green chillies finely chopped, 1 inch ginger grated, pinch of turmeric, 1 tbsp chopped dii leaves (sabbasige soppu) half of which will be used while grinding, salt to taste.


Method: Wash all the dals and soak them for 2- 3 hours. In a mixer grind the dals coarsely with green chillies, without adding water. Now add turmeric powder,remaining chopped dil leaves, grated ginger, onions ( optional) and salt to taste.This ground mixture should be thick. Mix it well and make oval shape dumpling and steam them for 15 to 20 minutes.You can also make them small sized balls and place them in idli plate. Serve hot with chutney.
