Alvathi - Nisha Baliga Shenoy
1 bunch Colocassia leaves ( about 50 ) and its stems
small piece ginger
1 medium size coconut
3 to 5 green chillies
3 to 4 Hog plums
7 to 8 roasted red chillies
1/2 tsp haldi powder
oil
salt to taste.
HOW TO PROCEED
Wash and chop the colocassia leaves .Peel its stem and chop into about 2 inch pieces.
Crush the Hog plums and add it to the leaves n stem pieces and cook with little water.
chopp ginger and keep aside.
Grind together coconut, roasted chillies, haldi powder to a fine paste.
When the leaves r cooked add the ground masala to it . Add the green chillies slitted.
Add salt to taste and the chopped ginger. Mix well and adjust the consistency .
Bring it to a boil.
Garnish it with Coconut oil.
Another version of this Aalvati
Tie the leaves in knots and temper the curry with peeled and crushed Garlic.
